It’s getting hard to trust androids.
Blumhouse announced earlier today that Lily Sullivan has been cast in Kate Dolan’s SOULM8TE as the Artificially Intelligent android a man acquires to help him cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife.
Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) will direct the film. Dolan rewrote an original draft written by Rafael Jordan (Salvage Marines), with the story by James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Jordan.
Two thousand twenty-three has proved to be a banner year for Lily. She starred in Evil Dead Rise, the reboot of the Sam Raimi cult classic franchise, which premiered in March 2023 at SXSW. The film is written and directed by Lee Cronin and has garnered great reviews. Monolith, another starring vehicle for Lily, is directed by promising Australian filmmaker, Matt Vesley, and premiered in October 2022 at the Adelaide Film Festival but also made its American premiere at SXSW Festival as well. Lily Sullivan was last seen in Barskins from executive producer Eli Bush for Fox 21 and National Geographic, where she starred opposite David Thewlis and Marcia Gay Harden. Lily stars as ‘Miranda’ in the 6 part series Picnic at Hanging Rock which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and is currently screening on Amazon, BBC, Canal+ and Foxtel. She also appeared in Greg McLean’s feature film Jungle, opposite Daniel Radcliffe. Some of her other film credits include Sucker opposite Timothy Spall and Galore. Lily made her feature film debut in 2012 in PJ Hogan’s Mental, opposite Toni Collette and Liev Schreiber. Her role earned her an AACTA Award nomination for Best Young Actor and a Film Critics Circle of Australia Award nomination for Best Performance by a Young Actor. Furthermore, Lily’s other credits include Romper Stomper for Stan, the critically acclaimed television series Rake, with Richard Roxburgh and NBC series CAMP, alongside Rachel Griffiths.
James Wan and Jason Blum will produce SOULM8TE. Michael Clear and Judson Scott, of Wan’s Atomic Monster banner, will executive produce, along with Ingrid Bisu. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.
