Onslaught came to San Diego Comic-Con with clips, cast, and Kevin Smith to moderate. This film’s premise is that super soldiers are out of control and an Army sniper has to defend her daughter from them. While listed as an action movie, this film appears to be an action-horror movie. The trailer was action packed with the soldiers and what they become. For example, one is called The Butcher. In addition to guns, expect knives, hatchets, and chainsaws. Wingard explained that he was unwinding from work by watching They Live multiple times a week and is heavily inspired by many of John Carpenter’s films. Smith, who has seen the film, also referred to it as a horror-action film and felt it was an 80’s throwback. Wingard said it was like a completion of a trilogy, with You’re Next, The Guest, and now Onslaught all in the same universe. Wingard was also very proud as this is his first film were he was able to do the Final Cut.
The film will be released in theaters and IMAX on September 4, 2026. Watch for more information to drop soon.
