Fans absolutely clamored into San Diego Comic-Con’s Ballroom 20 for Dark Moon’s presentation for Bite Me: Calling All Vampires, and the main draw was for K-Pop vampire group Enhypen. For this panel, Dark Moon extended beyond animation and has included others in the young adult vampire universe including Twilight’s Catherine Hardwick, Ashley Green, and Peter Facinelli. Much of the focus of the talk is on how vampires are more popular than ever. We did hear more from the Twilight guests and a couple of interesting notes about before filming started. Hardwicke wanted the the vampires to take cat classes to have more feline movements and the wolves to take dog dog classes. On directing, Hardwicke noted that no one thought Twilight would be a hit, otherwise a male director would have been hired. The lack of confidence in the brand gave her the opportunity to direct, which is still unfortunate to hear regarding women in Hollywood.
Music is such a big part of the current vampire universes. Enhypen is a great example of that. In the Dark Moon universe they all have characters that are based on them, and they each get special powers. These young stars are currently very busy on a world tour. When they finish this tour, their eighth album will come out. In a great audience question, when asked what song they would add to Twilight they said, of course, Bite Me.
Comic-Con Description: “The Dark Moon franchise extends beyond its webtoon and anime productions of vampire romance into a broader vampiric discourse. Global K-pop group ENHYPEN along with Catherine Hardwicke (movie director, Twilight), Ashley Greene (Twilight), and Peter Facinelli (Twilight, Nurse Jackie) discuss how they bring vampire characters to life. The panel will be moderated by Damian Holbrook (senior writer, TV Guide) and conclude with an audience Q&A.”
