‘Lisa Frankenstein’ Comes In Second At Slow Box Office

Was this one worth resurrecting?

Horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein didn’t exactly scare up a memorable opening weekend at the domestic box office, but it did manage to place second during a relatively weak three-day stretch, according to a report on Deadline.

The film–which earned just short of $4 million this weekend from 3.100 theaters–received only a 51 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, but did slightly better with CinemaScore, getting a B.

Lisa Frankenstein–a different take on the classic Mary Shelley horror novel–is directed by Zelda Williams from a screenplay by Diablo Cody. The Focus Features film stars Cole Sprouse, Kathryn Newton, Carla Gugino, Joe Chrest, Henry Eikenberry and Liza Soberano.

The movie follows a high school goth girl named Lisa Swallows (Newton), who accidentally re-animates a handsome Victorian corpse (Sprouse), and rebuilds him “into the man of her dreams–using a broken tanning bed.”

After undergoing a frightening transformation, the monster– along with Lisa–start “a murderous journey to find true love, happiness and a few missing body parts.”
