FX Orders ‘Very Young Frankenstein’ Pilot

It’s finally official. FX has given a pilot order for the upcoming series Very Young Frankenstein. In addition to the series announcement, some new cast members were announced which include Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells, Spencer House, Nikki Crawford, and Kumail Nanjiani, according to a report on Deadline.

As we reported last month, Cary Elwes will star in the pilot. Character details and the official plot have yet to be revealed. Although we know the series is based on the 1974 classic Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks.

Brooks will executive produce the project, teaming up with three major figures behind FX’s What We Do in the Shadows: writer and showrunner Stefani Robinson, pilot director Taika Waititi, and producer Garrett Basch.

Released on December 15, 1974, Young Frankenstein was directed by Mel Brooks and follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein as he learns that he has inherited his infamous grandfather’s estate in Transylvania. Upon arriving at the castle, Dr. Frankenstein soon begins to recreate his grandfather’s experiments. Hilarity ensues.

The film, which starred Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Kenneth Mars, and Madeline Kahn, would go on to earn $86.2 million at the box office against a budget of $2.78 million.
