Cary Elwes to Join ‘Very Young Frankenstein’

Cary Elwes (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Saw) is circling a role in FX’s Very Young Frankenstein, recently greenlit for a pilot. According to a report on Deadline, he will play the President of the United States.

Mel Brooks will executive produce the FX project with three What We Do in the Shadows alums: Stefani Robinson as writer and showrunner, Oscar winner Taika Waititi directing the pilot, and Garrett Basch.

Released on December 15, 1974, Young Frankenstein was directed by Mel Brooks and follows Dr. Frederick Frankenstein as he learns that he has inherited his infamous grandfather’s estate in Transylvania. Upon arriving at the castle, Dr. Frankenstein soon begins to recreate his grandfather’s experiments. Hilarity ensues.

The film, which starred Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Kenneth Mars, and Madeline Kahn, would go on to earn $86.2 million at the box office against a budget of $2.78 million.
