Get ready to re-enter the mist.

Mike Flanagan and Stephen King back together for a new adaptation of The Mist via Warner Bros., according to a report on Deadline. Flanagan will direct and write the screenplay.

Flanagan has remained deeply involved with King’s material, having directed Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep—the sequel to The Shining—and The Life of Chuck. He is also developing a fresh take on King’s debut novel, Carrie, as a limited series for Prime Video.

The Mist was first published in 1980 as part of the anthology Dark Forces, and later included in King’s collection Skeleton Crew. The story follows David Drayton, an artist who, after a violent storm, heads to a local supermarket with his young son. While they’re inside, a thick, unnatural mist rolls into town—and terrifying, otherworldly creatures begin emerging from it.
