What Will It Take To Bring Neve Campbell Back To ‘Scream’?

by Thomas Tuna

Can you go home again?

Let’s face it: The once-mighty (and mighty scary) Scream film franchise is in shambles right now. Not only has director Christopher Landon jumped ship, but two of its biggest stars–Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega–will not battle Ghostface in Scream 7 (for very different reasons).

So, is there any hope on the horizon? Well, don’t look now, but the legacy star–and arguably the face of the franchise–may ride to the rescue. Maybe. Perhaps. Or as Neve Campbell herself said, “We’ll see.”

Campbell famously dropped out of Scream VI in 2022 over, of all things, a salary dispute. “As a woman,” Campbell said back then, “I’ve had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value–especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer presented to me did not equate to the value I’ve brought to the franchise.”

Has that changed? How does Campbell view the current situation? The actor recently told The Hollywood Reporter she knows that “things are spinning” around the franchise at the moment,” adding that she thinks the filmmakers are “trying to figure out what they’re going to do. I would not be surprised to get a call.”

But, the actor added, “I made a strong statement a few years ago. So, if they were to come back to me, it would have to be with a respectful offer that I felt was in keeping with what I bring to the franchise.

Campbell also said horror fans enter into this equation. “There are millions of fans of the franchise out there,” she said. “These movies mean a lot to people, and they mean a lot to me. They meant a lot to all the cast members, and we would all love to see the franchise continue. I would hate to see it burn.”

So, she added, “we’ll see.”
