“Someone’s taking all of these urban legends, and making them reality.”
It was only a matter of time. Screen Gems’ 1990s slasher movie Urban Legend is getting a modern era reboot, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter.
Shanrah Wakefield will write the script with Gary Dauberman joining as a producer.
Urban Legend was released on September 25, 1998, and was directed by Jamie Blanks. The film starred Jared Leto, Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Joshua Jackson, Loretta Devine, Tara Reid, Michael Rosenbaum, Danielle Harris and Robert Englund.
Living up to its name, the flick referenced many popular urban legends including the babysitter and the man upstairs, the ankle slasher, gangs driving with headlights turned off, pop rocks and drinking soda, and the killer in the back seat of a car. Fans flocked to the film, and it would go on to earn $72.5 million at the box office against a budget of $14 million.
