Yesterday Skybound and Image Comics, in partnership with Universal, announced Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives #1 has sold out at the distributor level and will return to comic shops with a new printing.
From Eisner-Award winning writer Kelly Thompson (Absolute Wonder Woman, Black Widow), her longtime creative collaborator, Eisner-Award nominated artist Mattia De Iulis (Absolute Wonder Woman, The Cull) and letterer Becca Carey (Radiant Black).
“I’m so thrilled to see the response to this book — Mattia and I really put all of ourselves into it — so to see this response is so gratifying,” remarked writer Kelly Thompson. “Also, that Annie Wu variant cover is one of my favorite covers — and we had an embarrassment of riches on that front.”
“I couldn’t be happier with the response to our first issue!” added artist Mattia De Iulis. “Teaming up with Kelly to bring this fierce, tragic icon to life has been incredible, and seeing fans and retailers get behind the book so passionately makes all the hard work worth it.”
In Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives #1, Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis reunite once again to deliver the most haunting new horror series of the year. Born in the heart of a thunderstorm, made of stolen flesh, electricity, and monstrous desperation—The Bride lives!
With no memory of her past or understanding of what she is, The Bride takes her first steps into this strange new world. With danger seemingly lurking around every corner, she must solve the mystery of where and who she came from…and discover what makes life worth living.
“Kelly and Mattia have delivered the Bride story I’ve always wanted, and clearly I’m not alone!” said Alex Antone, Editorial Director at Skybound. “The word ‘special’ comes to mind when it comes to this series, and our 2nd printing cover by Annie Wu certainly meets the moment!”
Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives is the eighth Universal Monsters series launch, following James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds’?Dracula (which netted Simmonds a BEST PAINTER / MULTIMEDIA ARTIST (INTERIOR ART) Eisner Award nomination), Ram V, Dan Watters, and Matthew Roberts’ Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives!, Michael Walsh’s Frankenstein, Faith Erin Hick’s The Mummy, James Tynion IV and DANI’s The Invisible Man (which recently netted Tynion IV a BEST WRITER Eisner Award nomination), Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds’ Phantom of the Opera, and most recently, Joshua Williamson and Leomacs’ Blood of the Wolf Man.
