“You will press thy lips to my cold mouth, and I will drink upon thy soul.”

By now most horror fans have seen Orlok’s triumphant return to the big screen in Focus Features’ Nosferatu. The film, which is directed by Robert Eggers and stars Bill Skarsgard, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, and Willem Dafoe, opened on Christmas Day in theaters nationwide.

Earlier today, Deadline revealed that Nosferatu was the latest film to join their “Read the Screenplay” series which spotlights the scripts behind awards season’s most talked-about movies. The screenplay can be read here.

“Of course, it was the image and performance of Max Schreck that haunted me as a kid. There was something essential about the mysterious vampire and the simple fairytale of Nosferatu. And I am certain that when Hutter threw open the lid of Orlok’s sarcophagus, audiences gasped at the terror and imagined the stench of the undead monster. How could I find my own way there?” Eggers explains of his lifelong fascination since childhood about adapting the film.
