Things are starting to heat up on the new Firestarter reimagining courtesy of Blumhouse. Today the production company revealed via social media that production has started in Canada on Firestarter, from Universal Pictures, Blumhouse and Weed Road Productions.

Keith Tomas (The Vigil) will direct the film which is set to star Zac Efron and Michael Greyeyes.
Scott Teems (Halloween Kills, Rectify) adapted the script from Stephen King’s 1980 classic novel Firestarter. The book was of course adapted into a film of the same name in 1984 which starred Drew Barrymore, David Keith, Martin Sheen and George C. Scott.
Much like the original film, Firestarter will follow the story of a young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.
Jason Blum and Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman will produce. Martha De Laurentiis, who was an associate producer on the 1984 adaptation of Firestarter will executive produce.
