Private Joker has his sights set on Godzilla and Kong.
Legendary has closed a deal for Matthew Modine to join the cast of the next theatrical feature film in its Monsterverse franchise from director Grant Sputore, according to a report on Deadline.
The acclaimed actor will join Dan Stevens, who is reprising his role as Trapper, Kaitlyn Dever, Jack O’Connell and Delroy Lindo.
The latest Monsterverse feature, Godzilla X King: The New Empire was released in theaters on March 29, 2024. The film, which was directed by Adam Wingard, earned $571.9 million at the box office against a budget of around $150 million.
Modine would appear in numerous 80s hits including Birdy, Vision Quest, and Married to the Mob. It was in 1987 when he rose to further prominence for playing U.S. Marine James T. “Joker” Davis in Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket.
He would also go on to appear in Pacific Heights, Short Cuts, Cutthroat Island, The Dark Knight Rises, and Oppenheimer. On television, he portrayed Dr. Don Francis in the HBO film And the Band Played On (1993), Sullivan Groff on Weeds (2007), Ivan Turing in Proof (2015), and Dr. Martin Brenner on Netflix’s Stranger Things (2016–2022).
