Wanna go to the clown planet?
For years, efforts have been made (and thwarted) to develop a sequel to the 1988 cult horror-comedy Killer Klowns from Outer Space, but now, maybe a TV series will carry the story forward.
Stephen Chiodo–who wrote, directed and produced the original film with his brothers Charles and Edward–recently told SFX Magazine that the siblings’ goal is “to do an eight-part miniseries for streamers. We have a great concept that continues the story of our main characters.”
The new storyline, Chiodo explained, will follow “a new group of teenagers who come upon the clowns and meet a drunk living in his van–it’s Mike Tobacco. There’s a big invasion, and we end up on the clown planet.”
The original film–starring Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder and John Allen Nelson–follows a group of evil aliens (who look like clowns) as they invade a small Earth town and capture, kill and harvest the inhabitants for food. Well-received by critics and fans, the movie earned $43 million on a budget of less than $2 million.
