John Woodvine Passes Away at 96

A beloved member of the An American Werewolf in London cast has passed away. John Woodvine, the prolific British actor has died at 96, according to a report on Deadline.

Woodvine played the key role of Dr. J. S. Hirsch in the 1981 horror classic by John Landis. The film, which starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne would go on to earn $62 million at the box office against a budget of $5.8 million.

In addition to An American Werewolf in London, Woodvine also appeared in The Crown, The Devils, Knights of God, Leon the Pig Farmer, Vanity Fair and Dragonworld. In addition to his work in film and television, he also appeared in over 70 theatre productions

“John was an extraordinary actor and had a fabulous and varied career in all areas of the industry including work on stage in over 70 productions including at the Old Vic, National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company, and on screen in numerous roles including in Young Winston, An American Werewolf In London, Dragonworld, Persuasion, The Crown and most recently in the film Enys Men,” said Woodvine’s agent Phil Belfield.  “John was greatly admired by all and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those who met, knew and worked with him. We are all the richer to have known him.”
