James Wan in Talks to Direct ‘The Creature From the Black Lagoon’

“I can tell you something about this place. The boys around here call it The Black Lagoon – a paradise. Only they say nobody has ever come back to prove it.”

James Wan is getting prepared to take a dive into the Black Lagoon. In what would mark the first film James Wan would direct since the merging of Atomic Monster with Blumhouse, Deadline has learned he is in early talks to potentially helm The Creature From the Black Lagoon for Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures.

Wan hopes to develop a modernized retelling that leans into visceral horror while paying respect to the original classic.

Directed by Jack Arnold, The Creature from The Black Lagoon premiered on February 12, 1954 and starred Richard Carlson, Julie Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, Nestor Paiva, Whit Bissell, Ben Chapman and Ricou Browning.
