When will the next Purge begin?
The sixth installment in The Purge horror film series has been “in limbo”–according to franchise creator James DeMonaco–but this week one of the stars gave a (somewhat) optimistic update on the planned film.
Frank Grillo–who portrayed Leo Barnes in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year—told Screen Rant that “the script (for Purge 6) is done. It basically centers around Leo Barnes–my character. It would the last of the last of the last–it’s like the guy who keeps retiring.”
Grillo also confirmed that DeMonaco will direct the film, “if it happens. And it’s a matter of money. It’s a matter of how big they want the movie to be and how much money they want to spend–considering they’ve done a lot in this franchise.” But, he added, “it’s a great script.”
The original 2013 The Purge–written and directed by DeMonaco–is set in a dystopian America that celebrates an annual holiday called the Purge–when all crime (including murder) is legal for a 12-hour period.
