Production company Not the Funeral Home has secured the rights to adapt Adam Cesare’s and artist David Stoll’s four-issue series Dead Mall into a feature film, according to a report on Variety. Screenwriter Michael Varrati is slated to pen the script.
The official synopsis of the comic book series reads “The Penn Mills Galleria is about to be demolished. Five teens sneak into the mall to take a last look around before its gone. However, while Penn Mills has been closed for years, the mall is far from abandoned. A night of exploration becomes a shopping spree from hell. The teens must contend with the sprawling, transformative cosmic horror of Penn Mills or be trapped forever within the Dead Mall.“
“’Dead Mall’ is like ‘Event Horizon’ and ‘Hellraiser’ in a mall — we are excited to work with Adam on this project,” Matt Manjourides, co-founder of Not The Funeral Home alongside Justin Martell, said in a statement.
Cesare is best known for his “Clown in a Cornfield” series of novels which were made into a film last year.
