Gerry Conway, the co-creator of Werewolf by Night and Man-Thing has passed away at the age of 73.

Conway had a long and illustrious career working on many titles including Marvel’s flagship title The Amazing Spiderman.  At 19, Conway began writing the series succeeding Stan Lee as scribe. His run on the series went from issues #111–149 and included the landmark death of Gwen Stacy story in #121 (June 1973). Eight issues later, Conway and artist Russ Andru introduced the Punisher as a conflicted antagonist for Spider-Man, as well as the Jackal.

Conway also had tons of horror work in resume.  His work was featured in The Tomb of Dracula, Werewolf by Night, Legion of Monsters, Ghost Rider, Monsters Unleashed, Tales of the Zombie, Vampire Tales, Creatures on the Loose, and more.

With DC Comics, he co-created the superheroes Firestorm, Power Girl, Jason Todd, and Batman villain Killer Croc.

“Gerry Conway was a gifted writer. He was thoughtful, deeply attuned to the emotional and moral core of storytelling, and a wonderful and articulate advocate for comics and creators. His writing has inspired all of us at Marvel, and will continue to inspire generations of writers, readers and fans to come,” remembers Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Comics and Franchise.

The staff at Horror News Network send our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Conway.
