Bloodsucking Darkness–a popular manga by Junji Ito–will be reimagined as a live-action feature film, according to a report on Variety.
Jeff Howard–best known for scripting The Haunting of Hill House and Oculus–will write the screenplay and act as executive producer of the new film. The search for a director is underway. No production schedules or release window have been announced.
“When I found out a live-action Junji Ito adaptation was going to happen, I chased it with everything I had,” Howard said, “because I couldn’t live with anyone else getting there before me.”
In describing the project, Howard said, “the combination of fear and feelings is where I always wanted to be.”
