‘X-Files’ Composer Mark Snow Dies at Age 78

by Rob Caprilozzi

Mark Snow, the composer behind the creepy X-Files theme, died Friday at his home in Connecticut, according to a report on Variety.

Snow, who was born Martin Fulterman, grew up in Brooklyn, NY and found his love of music at an early age. At 10 years old he began playing the piano and would quickly add drums and the oboe. He would later attend the prestigious Juilliard School of Music from 1964 to 1968.

Besides The X-Files, Snow composed music for various television series such as SmallvilleBlue Bloods, Ghost Whisperer, Hart to Hart, Millennium, One Tree Hill, the 2002 reboot of The Twilight Zone, and Starsky & Hutch.

Throughout his career, Snow earned 15 Primetime Emmy Award nominations across various categories — including six for The X?Files, two for Ghost Whisperer, and individual nods for TV movies and mini-series including Helter Skelter and Something About Amelia.

Much to Snow’s surprise, The X-Files theme would make the charts and  eventually become a top-10 hit in England, Ireland, France and across Europe in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Glynnis, three daughters and four grandchildren. The team at Horror News Network send our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Snow.
