“What has been used on one side, is lost on the other side. There’s no going back.”

We had all hoped that Demi Moore would take home an Oscar last night for her performance in The Substance, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The good news is that The Substance did win an Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

Pierre-Olivier Persin, Stephanie Guillon and Marilyne Scarselli took to the stage to accept the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for their work in the film. Persin delivered a heartfelt thank you speech acknowledging the Academy, director Coralie Fargeat, and stars Moore and Margaret Qualley “for your patience in the makeup chair.” He also went on to thank Mubi, Working Title, and the “whole crew because it takes a village.”

The Substance had its debut on May 19, 2024 at the Cannes Film Festival before debuting on September 20, 2024 in the United States. The film took in $77 million at the box office against a budget of $18 million.
