You can take the girl out of the scream, but you can’t take the scream out of the girl.
Melissa Barrera–one of the Scream franchise stalwarts–famously lost her spot in the upcoming installment late last year, but that apparently hasn’t soured her on the horror genre in general.
As horror fans know, Spyglass dropped the actor from Scream 7 after she posted her comments regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. In a statement issued at the time, the studio said it had “zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form.” End result? Barrera was out of a gig.
But, she’s still a scream queen at heart.
“I don’t think I’ll be able to get away from horror,” the actor recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “And I don’t want to. I love the genre so much. It’s so much fun to make.”
Barrera added that horror is a genre “that people show up to in theaters no matter what. No stars have to be in the movie for people to show up. That shows how big it is. And I think a lot of great directors start as horror directors. There’s just something about it.”
As reported, Scream 7 has also lost another star–Jenna Ortega–and director Christopher Landon, so keep reading Horror News Network for the latest on the troubled film.
