by Rob Caprilozzi

This is one pissed off Santa…

Usually when we talk about R.L. Stine we are in the realm of horror geared towards younger reads such as Goosebumps and Fear Street. This year, Stine teamed with artist Pius Bak on the one-shot Stuff of Nightmares: Slay Ride, which was published by BOOM! Studios. The one-shot featured different covers from an array of talented artists including Francisco Francavilla,  Jenny Frison, Miguel Mercado, and Jae Lee with June Chung.

The story follows Heinrick Fiddler, a mall Santa who becomes deranged as his profession has become obsolete. And this year, he’s dead-set on making sure department store shopping isn’t the only thing that’s deceased! Fiddler uses a variety of weapons to disperse of his victims including candy canes, axes, fire, chainsaws and more.

The creative team came together as a whole to make this Christmas much more frightening!

Congratulations to BOOM! Studios, R.L. Stine and the creative team behind Stuff of Nightmares: Slay Ride for winning the Best One-Shot in the 2023 Horror Comic Awards.
