The undead are rising again as The Asylum prepares to bring back its cult-favorite zombie series, Z Nation, with a new installment from the studio behind Sharknado, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter.
Titled Z Nation: Resurrection, the reboot sequel will return to the franchise’s post-apocalyptic setting, picking up years after the original series. With a terrifying new breed of undead emerging, humanity’s remaining survivors will face another fight for survival as the threat of extinction looms larger than ever.
The original Z Nation aired on SYFY from 2014 to 2018, spanning five seasons and 68 episodes. It later inspired the more serious prequel series Black Summer, which ran for two seasons on Netflix from 2019 to 2021.
“Z Nation has never really gone away,” said Asylum co-founder David Rimawi. “The fans have kept this world alive, and for years we’ve heard the same question: ‘When are you bringing it back?’ Z Nation: Resurrection gives us the opportunity to return to the characters and universe audiences love while taking the story somewhere bigger, darker, and even more unpredictable.”
