The evil dead are going off in a new direction.
The Evil Dead film franchise expanded last year with the box office smash Evil Dead Rise, and now a brand-new spinoff installment has been announced, according to a report on Deadline.
The film–from series creator Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures–this week signed Sebastien Vanicek (Infested) to co-write and direct the new feature. Plot details–as well as casting and production schedules–have not yet been revealed.
The classic franchise–started by Raimi with 1981’s The Evil Dead–ballooned through the years to include four sequels, a TV series, video games, comic books and even a musical.
The fifth film in the series–last year’s Evil Dead Rise–was written and directed by Lee Cronin and starred Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan as estranged sisters trying to survive and save their families from Deadites. A hit with fans and critics, the movie earned more than $147 million at the global box office.
