‘The Mummy’ Set to Rise Again

“I only gamble with my life, never my money.”

It looks like The Mummy franchise is set to rise from the dead. The stars of the first two Mummy films, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, are in talks to star in a new Mummy sequel, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter.

Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who make up the Radio Silence team, have signed on to direct. The duo worked on hits such as AbigailScream (2022)Scream VI, and Ready or Not.

Another interesting tidbit from the initial report is that a source described the project as not a reboot, but rather a sequel that would disregard the events of the third movie.

Released on May 7, 1999, The Mummy would go on to secure $422.5 million at the box office against a budget of $80 million. Directed by Stephen Sommers, the film starred Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Jonathan Hyde, and Kevin J. O’Connor.
