Will there be a love triangle among the zombies?
This has been a busy week for HBO’s popular horror series The Last of Us, as it prepares for Season 2 by filling yet another key role, according to a report on Deadline.
Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus) will join Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Young Mazino as Jesse–along with stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie–in the show’s second season.
Merced will play Dina, a character described as Jesse’s ex and Ellie’s new love interest. A “free-wheeling spirit,” Dina’s devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of this post-apocalyptic world. In The Last of Us Part II video game–the blueprint for Season 2–Dina is voiced by Shannon Woodward.
The upcoming season–expected to start shooting next month for an HBO debut sometime in 2025–is led by showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
In Season 1–set in a futuristic world where the Cordyceps fungus has transformed people into zombie-like monsters–Joel is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a quarantine zone–while being threatened by horrific creatures at every turn.
