Another fighter joins the fray.

The Last of Us–the HBO breakout horror hit based on the popular horror video game–is gearing up to start shooting Season 2 sometime next month, and a new, major character has now been cast, according to a report on Deadline.

The new season–expected to kick off in 2025–will introduce Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You) in the key role of Abby, joining stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

In Season 2–that draws from 2020’s The Last of Us Part II game–Abby is described as “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.” In the video game, the character is voiced by Laura Bailey.

The show’s second season–with Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann returning as showrunners–will follow up on the nine-episode Season 1 that’s set in a post-apocalyptic world where the Cordyceps fungus has transformed people into zombie-like monsters.

In the middle of this nightmarish landscape, Joel is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a quarantine zone–pursued around every corner by shambling horrors.

During the last season, the cast also included Nico Parker, Merle Dandridge, Anna Tory, Gabriel Luna, Lamar Johnson, Kelvonn Montreal Woodward, Melanie Lynskey and Jeffrey Pierce.
