SDCC: ‘FROM’ Panel

by Stephanie Shamblin Gray

Series stars Harold Perrineau, Elizabeth Saunders, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Eion Bailey, David Alpay, and Executive Producers Jeff Pinkner and John Griffin were at Comic-Con for the first time to discuss the upcoming season of the fan-favorite show, FROM, and answer questions about the history of and process involved in the show.

Season 3 will be cold and snowy as timing of filming was in winter and this fortunately fits the story perfectly. All of the cast noted that it was challenging filming in such cold weather. They joked, or possibly stated, that a lot of the special effects budget went to adjusting the snow for consistency. Regarding the new season and spoilers, fans will be interested in knowing that many questions will be answered in the third season, but don’t worry, more questions will be asked.

As for the acting process, we learned that the cast only knows what they need to for their character, such as Boyd had killed his wife, as that would affect their internal character. But otherwise they do not know the mystery and what is coming. Perrineau noted this was not a problem for him as he is used to such secrecy from his time on Lost.

If you are wondering why Que Sera, Sera for the theme song, we learned that the original thought was of a similar song style to Johnny Cash doing Hurt and quickly shifted to the Pixies. The song is more selected for style than lyrics.

Two new members of the cast were announced in San Diego, Robert Joy (Land of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes) and Samantha Brown (Y: The Last Man). Per MGM+, “Joy will play Henry, a curmudgeon to whom the years have not been kind, while Brown will play Acosta, a new-to-the-force police officer who is in over her head.”

FROM returns for its third season on September 22, 2024, on MGM+.
