While speaking with MovieWeb ahead of his upcoming film Send Help, Raimi addressed questions about a potential Darkman revival, offering a more optimistic response than many anticipated.
“Yes, Ghost House Pictures, the company I work with, is trying to make the sequel right now,” said Raimi. ”We’ve got a screenplay and two great directors, but we’re still having a little difficulty with the financing. It’s always the same in the movie business.”
Directed by Raimi, Darkman arrived in theaters on August 24, 1990. The film starred Liam Neeson, Frances McDormand, Colin Friels, and Larry Drake. It would go on to gross $48.8 million at the box office against a budget of $14 million.
The film would go on to spawn two sequels, Darkman II: The Return of Durant, and Darkman III: Die Darkman Die.
