Remake Of ‘The Blob’ Moves Forward, Inks Genre Director

by Thomas Tuna

The Blob is back, baby!

Warner Bros. Discovery is tackling a reboot of the 1958 horror classic The Blob, and an acclaimed genre filmmaker was signed this week to helm the project, according to a report on The Wrap.

David Bruckner (Hellraiser, The Ritual) will write and direct the remake, with David Goyer and Keith Levine on board as producers and Judith Harris serving as executive producer.

The storyline details have not yet been revealed, and no casting choices or production schedules were announced.

The original The Blob–directed by Irvin Yeaworth from a screenplay by Kay Linaker and Theodore Simonson–stars Steve McQueen (in his first leading role) and Aneta Corsaut.

Debuting as part of a double-feature with I Married a Monster from Outer Space, the film deals with a carnivorous, amoeba-like alien that crashes on Earth inside a meteorite. The alien becomes a big problem when it envelops living beings, growing ever larger–eventually becoming bigger than a building.
