“I’m becoming Brundlefly. Don’t you think that’s worth a Nobel Prize or two?”

Nikyatu Jusu has begun development on The Fly, a new film based on David Cronenberg’s body horror masterwork, which she wrote and will direct for 20th Century Studios and Chernin Entertainment, according to a report on Deadline.

The plot for the film is currently unknown at this time, but it’s said that the film is set in the universe of Cronenberg’s film, rather than a straightforward remake.

Released on August 15, 1986, The Fly was directed by David Cronenberg and starred Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis and John Getz. The film earned $60.6 million at the box office against a budget of $15 million.

The official synopsis reads: When scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) completes his teleportation device, he decides to test its abilities on himself. Unbeknownst to him, a housefly slips in during the process, leading to a merger of man and insect. Initially, Brundle appears to have undergone a successful teleportation, but the fly’s cells begin to take over his body. As he becomes increasingly fly-like, Brundle’s girlfriend (Geena Davis) is horrified as the person she once loved deteriorates into a monster.
