New Universal Monster Feature Finally Gets Title: ‘Abigail’

by Thomas Tuna

Children can be such monsters.

The mystery has been solved: The new, mystery-shrouded Universal monster entry now has a title, an expanded synopsis and a frightening trailer. Check out the bloody video on this page.

The new horror pic–titled Abigail–is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the Scream franchise) from a screenplay by Stephen Shields (Zombie Bashers) and Guy Busick (the Scream franchise, Ready or Not). The feature is slated to hit theaters April 19.

In the film, a group of would-be criminals kidnap the 12-year-old ballerina daughter of a mob boss, and all they have to do to collect the $50-million ransom is to watch the girl overnight. Simple, right?

But, as they wait inside an isolated mansion, the captors disappear–one by one–and quickly discover that “they’re locked inside with no normal little girl.”

The all-star genre cast includes Melissa Barrera (Scream), Dan Stevens (Legion), Kathryn Newton (Freaky), William Catlett (Black Lightning), Kevin Durand (Resident Evil: Retribution) and Angus Cloud (Euphoria) as the film’s kidnappers; and Alisha Weir (Darklands) as Abigail.
