Netflix Developing Live-Action ‘Ravenloft’ Series

Netflix is developing Ravenloft, a live-action series based on the popular gothic horror setting of Dungeons & Dragons, according to a report on Deadline. The story hails from writer/executive producer John August, executive producer Alfonso Cuarón and Hasbro Entertainment.

Ravenloft, one of the most popular and enduring Dungeons & Dragons settings, was introduced in 1983 by Tracy and Laura Hickman. The original adventure introduced players to Count Strahd von Zarovich, a powerful vampire who rules the gloomy land of Barovia from his castle.

The setting eventually developed into the Domains of Dread, a collection of isolated realms known as domains. Each domain is ruled by a powerful villain called a Darklord, whose own curse and tragic history are often tied to the land itself.

Over the decades, the gothic horror setting has expanded far beyond its original tabletop roots, inspiring more than a hundred official novels, RPG modules, video games, and companion rulebooks, as well as countless fan-created works.
