Melissa Barrera: “I’m Grateful” For The ‘Scream’ Franchise

by Thomas Tuna

Some screams never fade.

With all the recent drama involving the cast and crew of the proposed Scream 7–with stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega and director Christopher Landon leaving the film–fans may think there are hard feelings all around.

But, at least in the case of the recently canned Barrera, that doesn’t seem to be the rule. At least on the surface.

Barrera–who was dropped from the next Scream installment late last year after she made comments on social media about the Israel-Hamas conflict–still obviously has fond memories of her time on the iconic horror franchise, according to a report on Deadline.

“I’m just so grateful for what I got to infuse into the franchise,” the actor said at the Sundance Film Festival, “and that’s something I’ll be proud of forever.”

Barrera added that the cast members are “family for life. If we’re ever in the vicinity of each other, we always find each other. We just want to spend time with each other, and nothing is ever going to change that.”

Barrera’s next genre project is Your Monster, which premiered at Sundance’s Midnight Section. In the film, Barrera plays a soft-spoken actor who finds her voice again after meeting a frightening–but charming–monster living in her closet.
