Big shoes to fill indeed.
Reports earlier this month had Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) taking over the key role of the monster from Andrew Garfield in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein project.
That role, of course, was forever burned into the world’s collective consciousness by Boris Karloff back in 1931, and Elordi recently confirmed his demanding part–as well as praising his director–on a recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
When asked about his part in the Netflix film, Elordi said, “Yeah, I’m playing Frankenstein’s creature–for Guillermo, who is the god of monsters. He’s the kindest man–and he’s so sincere. He’s brilliant.”
Frankenstein–a new take on Mary Shelly’s 1818 novel–is being directed by the Oscar-winning del Toro from a screenplay he wrote with J. Miles Dale, and is headed to Netflix on a yet-to-be-determined date.
The rest of the cast includes Oscar Isaac as Dr. Victor Frankenstein, Mia Goth as The Bride, Christoph Waltz (reportedly playing Dr. Pretorius), Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley and Christian Convery,
The new film reportedly will be set in 19th-Century eastern Europe, and will follow Dr. Pretorius–“who is tracking down Dr. Frankenstein’s monster, who is believed to have died in a fire 40 years ago.”
