Horror Comic Awards 2025: James Tynion IV Wins Writer of the Year

by Rob Caprilozzi

If you were searching for a truly frightening comic paired with a compelling story in 2025, there’s a strong chance you reached for a book by James Tynion IV. The 2024 Horror Comic Award winner for Best Writer returned this year poised to defend his title, and he came armed with an impressive slate of standout releases.

Alongside ongoing hits like Something Is Killing the Children, The Department of Truth, and W0RLDTR33, Tynion IV delivered yet another successful title by teaming with artist Tyler Boss on Exquisite Corpses for Image Comics. The series centers on America’s wealthiest families, who every five years gather to unleash twelve of the world’s most lethal killers into a small town for a savage game of survival, where only the last murderer standing claims victory.

As if that weren’t enough, Tynion IV also took on classic horror icons with Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man and Universal Monsters: Dracula Black & White Special, while further showcasing his range with Spectregraph from DSTLRY.

For a year defined by both quantity and quality, we’re thrilled to award James Tynion IV the 2025 Horror Comic Award for Writer of the Year.
