Warner Bros. has officially announced a new Gremlins film with a release date set for November 2027, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter.
CEO and president of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav revealed on Thursday’s investor call that Steven Spielberg is returning to executive produce the new film while Chris Columbus is set to direct and produce.
Released on June 8, 1984, Gremlins was written by Chris Columbus and directed by Joe Dante. The film starred Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, Hoyt Axton, Polly Holliday and Frances Lee McCain, with Howie Mandel providing the voice of Gizmo. Gremlins was a box office hit as it would go on to take in $212.9 million against a budget of only $11 million.
In 1990 the series would continue with a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. The franchise would continue to expand over the years to include video games, an animated television series and numerous collectibles.
