Hear him roar!
The latest Toho Inc. reimagining of Godzilla–and his reckless rampages–stomped through its second weekend at the box office with impressive results.
Godzilla: Minus One–which debuted last weekend with an A CinemaScore and a $10-million rake at the domestic box office–finished in third place this weekend, raking in $8 million from 2,500 theaters, bringing the film’s total to $25 million to date, according to numbers reported by Deadline.
The movie–set in post-war Japan–watches as the King of the Monsters destroys an entire city–again. Not surprisingly, this new take on Godzilla shows he’s a “terrifying and overwhelming force,” according to Toho president Koji Ueda.
It all began back in 1954–with the first Godzillla feature from filmmaker Ishiro Honda–with Japanese authorities fighting for their lives against the monstrous kaiju–whose attacks trigger fear of a nuclear holocaust.
