In speaking with SFX Magazine, Rodriguez mentioned how the From Dusk till Dawn TV series came about before revealing the upcoming animated series.

“Over here, I have my own television network [El Rey]. So I had a television network here. And I needed to create programming, so Quentin [Tarantino] and I still control the rights to it. So I went, ‘Oh, wow, I’d love to expand the story of Santánico Pandemonium, and the whole Aztec vampire lore for my network’,” he explained.

Distributed by Dimension Films, From Dusk till Dawn made its debut on January 17, 1996 and pulled in $59.3 million on a budget of just $19 million. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, the film starred George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Ernest Liu, Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Tom Savini, Fred Williamson and John Saxon.

While no other details were revealed about the animated series more announcements are expected to come in the upcoming months.
