Fede Alvarez Wants To Try Something New With ‘Alien: Romulus’ Sequel

by Rob Caprilozzi

Director Fede Alvarez recently sat down with Empire Online to discuss a potential Alien: Romulus sequel. If a sequel does happen, the director hopes to take it somewhere more unexpected.

“Rodo [Sayagues, co-writer] and I are working on that right now,” the filmmaker told Empire. “We’re excited about where it can go. We’ve almost checked all of the boxes of things that I want to see [in Romulus], and brought back a lot of the things I hadn’t seen in a while. Wherever we go now, we can go into uncharted waters.” The plan, he hints, would to be follow the exploits of Cailee Spaeny’s protagonist Rain, introduced in Romulus. “I think it’ll be so exciting to go with characters you know from this movie, to a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been before, and to discover things that you’ve never seen before,” he says.

Released on August 16, 2024, Alien: Romulus follows Space colonizers that come face to face with the most terrifying life-form in the universe while scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station.

The film, which starred Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu earned $350.9 million at the box office against a budget of $80 million.
