Documentary On Impact Of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ In the Works

A new documentary which examines Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece, 2001: A Space Odyssey, is being made in partnership with the legendary filmmaker’s estate and the Stanley Kubrick Film Archive, according to a report on Deadline.

Producing the film titled Monolith are Mike Medavoy and Michael Lee Peterson of Phoenix Pictures, Jason Clark of Catchlight Studios, Sean Richard, and Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson of Appian Way. Partners in Kind and TIME Studios are co-financing the film.

In 1991, the film, which is known for its groundbreaking visual effects, innovative storytelling, and profound themes exploring humanity, existence, was officially deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Directed by Stanley Kubrick, 2001: A Space Odyssey starred Keir Dullea as Dr David Bowman, Gary Lockwood as Dr Frank Poole, and William Sylvester as Dr Heywood Floyd. Released on April 3, 1968, the film earned $146 million at the box office against a budget of $10.5 million.
