Director, Writer Reunite For Sequel To ’28 Days Later’

The wait has been a lot longer than 28 days.

It’s been years since any news has dropped on the proposed second sequel to the 2002 zombie horror hit 28 Days Later, and this week The Hollywood Reporter shared that the original film’s director and writer will return for 28 Years Later.

Director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland reportedly are on board for what they hope will become a trilogy of sequels–with Boyle helming the first film and Garland scripting all three. At this time, 28 Years Later is not attached to a studio or streamer.

The original 28 Days Later–from the filmmaking team of Boyle and Garland–stars Cillian Murphy as a bicycle courier who awakens from a coma to discover the accidental release of a contagious, aggression-inducing virus has infected society.

The feature–which raked in $85 million worldwide on an $8-million budget–spawned the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, with Boyle and Garland serving as executive producers.
