“Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself?”
MUBI has given everyone a first look, in the form of an official teaser trailer which can be seen below, at their upcoming film The Substance. The film is written and directed by Coralie Fargeat and stars Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid.
The film premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival and received an 11-minute standing ovation as the credits rolled. In addition, The Substance took home the prize for best screenplay at the festival.
The synopsis of the movie reads “Elisabeth Sparkle, star of an aerobics show, is fired on her 50th birthday by her boss because of her age. When she returns home, her morale at its lowest, she receives an unexpected proposal. A mysterious laboratory offers her a miraculous “substance”: if she injects it, she will become “the best version” of herself, “younger, more beautiful, more perfect.”
