If there’s one franchise that desperately needs a reboot it’s The Amityville Horror by far.
Enter David F. Sandberg, the director behind Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation, Shazam!, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Until Dawn.
Fresh off the success of The Conjuring: Last Rites, which was released in theaters this past weekend and has already earned $187 million global, Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing have been tapped to write the script, described as a reimagining of the original horror classic, according to a report on Deadline.
At this point, no official logline or actors have been attached to the film.
Jay Anson’s The Amityville Horror was published by Prentice Hall on September 13, 1977. Less than two years later, in July 1979, the story was adapted into a feature film directed by Stuart Rosenberg and featuring James Brolin, Margot Kidder, Rod Steiger, and Murray Hamilton. The film would go on to earn $86.4 million at the box office against a budget of only $4.7 million.
