We have sad news to pass along today as actress Daveigh Chase has passed away at the age of 35, according to a report on Deadline. Genre fans will remember her as Samara Morgan, the haunting antagonist of the 2002 horror hit The Ring, a performance that earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
The actress’ boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, told TMZ that Chase died Tuesday from meningitis and an infection in her blood, which caused her to have septic issues and led to her body shutting down.
The actress was admitted to a hospital in Los Angeles earlier this month because of malnutrition.
Chase voiced Lilo Pelekai in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch. The film, which debuted on June 21, 2002, went on to earn $273.1 million against a budget of $80 million.
The staff of Horror News Network send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Chase.
