Dan Trachtenberg To Direct Next Entry In ‘Predator’ Franchise

by Thomas Tuna

The hunt is on…once again.

The popular horror-s/f franchise that started with 1987’s Predator will continue with Badlands, the next 20th Century entry in the series–and this week a genre director has signed on to helm the feature.

Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Land, Prey) will direct the new film from a screenplay he wrote with Patrick Aison, according to a report on Deadline. Discussions are now being held with potential cast members for Badlands, which is expected to start shooting later this year.

No plot details or release window have yet been revealed–and it’s not yet known if the movie will land on the small or big screen.

The original Predator–directed by John McTiernan from a screenplay by Jim and John Thomas–stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a paramilitary rescue team on a mission to save hostages in Central America. The team (of course) runs across a technologically advanced alien Predator (Kevin Peter Hall), and the rest is cinematic history.

The first film was a hit with moviegoers, and spawned three sequels–Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010) and The Predator (2018)–and the successful 2022 prequel Prey.
