Bruce Campbell Looks Ahead To The Future Of ‘Evil Dead’

Will they rise again?

Evil Dead Rise–this year’s installment in the classic horror franchise from writer/director Lee Cronin–was a critical and commercial success and so, not surprisingly, it may not be the final chapter in the slasher series.

Bruce Campbell–perhaps the most recognizable franchise figure and executive producer of Evil Dead Rise–recently told comicbook.com that additional films are already in the creative pipeline.

“We let the filmmakers decide,” Campbell said. “Sam (Raimi) puts it on their plate. Fede Alvarez wanted to do a straight version, and Lee Cronin didn’t want any winking at the camera. We don’t ever try to put these guys beyond their comfort zone.”

Campbell added that he would like to see another Evil Dead film. “We’ve got a couple more in the pipeline, and it would be nice to jolly it up a little bit,” he said, “but we try to respect the filmmakers. If they’re better at doing a straight horror movie, that’s OK.”

Cronin also expressed optimism for another entry over the summer, saying, “Another Evil Dead is always a possibility. I had a great experience making this movie with some really great people, and success makes you look at what’s possible next.”

In Evil Dead Rise, Beth (Lily Sullivan) visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) in Los Angeles, but things take a turn for the terrifying when the sisters discover a mysterious book deep in Ellie’s building. A book that unleashes an army of demons–and forces Beth to fight for her life.
