There’s a new Patrick Bateman in town. Austin Butler has signed on to star as Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s American Psycho, according to a report on Variety.

The film, which features a script by Scott Z. Burns (The Laundromat), will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’ novel.

The original film, which was released on April 14, 2000, starred Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas, Samantha Mathis, Matt Ross, Bill Sage, Chloe Sevigny, Cara Seymour, Justin Theroux, Guinevere Turner, and Reese Witherspoon. The film went on to earn $34 million at the box office against a budget of $7 million.

Guadagnino’s known for films such as his Desire trilogy, which consists of the films I Am Love (2009), A Bigger Splash (2015), and Call Me by Your Name (2017). In 2018 he rolled out a remake of Suspiria, and a few years later in 2022, he would return to the horror genre with the film Bones and All.
